Choral music for Easter and Eastertide

Easter has its roots in the Jewish feast of the Passover. As early as the 1st Council of Nicea (325), the date for Easter was specified as the first Sunday after the first full moon after the beginning of spring. The resurrection of Jesus is celebrated on the two holy days of Easter of Sunday and Easter Monday, Eastertide begins on Easter morning and ends 50 days later with Whitsun. During this period, namely 40 days after Easter, the feast of the Ascension of Christ is celebrated. The Catholic church mainly celebrates the Sunday after Easter as “Low Sunday”, the Feast of the First Communion.
