Choral music for Lent and Passiontide

527 Artikel
Lent / Passiontide, also called the “Eastertide time of penitence” in the Catholic church, describes the forty days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. “Holy Week” between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday stands out in musical terms: in the great Passions, the Passion and death of Jesus on the cross is commemorated, the “Stabat mater” meditates upon the Passion of Jesus from the viewpoint of his Mother Mary, standing at the cross. On the three “holy days” of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Saturday, the Tenebrae responses are heard in the divine offices, always ending with the setting of the “Miserere”.
