  • Moritz Hauptmann, geb. 1792 in Dresden, gest. 1868 in Leipzig. Als Komponist und Musiktheoretiker eine der prägenden Gestalten der 1. Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Ab 1811 Schüler und später bester Freund von L. Spohr; 1812 Mitglied in dessen Hofkapelle; ab 1815 Privatmusiklehrer in Rußland; 1822 wieder bei Spohr, diesmal in Kassel; 1842 wurde er aus Spohrs und Mendelssohns Empfehlung Thomaskantor uns Musikdirektor in Leipzig, kurz darauf auch Lehrer am Konservatorium; 1850 Mitbegründer und Vorsitzender der Bach-Gesellschaft.
