It may sound immodest to say that the most beautiful Christmas songs are from Poland. … In the oldest Polish Christmas songs … one still hears the echoes of Gregorian chant, while other melodies are derived from the Renaissance. However, most of the songs originated in the 17th and 18th centuries. Frederic Chopin immortalized "Lulajze Jezuniu" (Sleep Jesus Child), one of the most beautiful Christmas lullabies, in his Scherzo in B minor.

  • Józef Swider was born in Czechowice (Upper Silesia, Poland) in 1930. He studied piano, music theory and composition at the Conservatory of Music in Katowice and with Goffredo Petrassi in Rome as a stipendiary at the Accademia Santa Cecilia. Swider maintained his ties with the Katowice High School (later Music Academy) for over 40 years as a professor of composition, counterpoint and harmony, as well as Deputy Rector and long-serving Dean of the faculty for composition and music theory. In addition he was a professor on the Cieszyn campus of the Silesian University of Katowice, where he directed the Institute of Music Education for 15 years. Swider is actively involved in the Polish choral association as a composer, adviser and adjudicator at choral competitions. Personal details

„Zwölf polnische Weihnachtslieder” in Sätzen von Jozef Swider für Frauen- oder Kinderchor a cappella oder für Männerchor a cappella

Neben der Ausgabe dieser Weihnachtslieder in Sätzen für gemischten Chor (CV 7.418) erscheinen hiermit zwei weitere dankbare Fassungen für gleiche Stimmen. Beide Sammlungen zeigen Swider als Chorkomponisten, der nicht nur sein Handwerk hinsichtlich der Singbarkeit und Klanglichkeit der Sätze versteht, sondern der darüber hinaus die formal sehr unterschiedlichen aber hoch interessanten Melodien der traditionsreichen polnischen Weihnachtslieder vermittelt. Zu den keinesfalls zu sentimentalen Originaltexten hat Heidi Kirmße gut dankbare Übersetzungen besorgt. Sehr zu empfehlen!
