Flauto e voce III
Torri's “Son rosignolo” and Vivaldi's “Cara sorte” both demand “Flagiolet” or Flautino, the French Flageolet, but the parts can be performed on sopranino recorder without any problem. Many written-out trills enhance the song of Torri's “nightingale” whereas leaps and arpeggios are used in Vivaldi's “Cara sorte” (RV 739). In Keiser's “Philomene” the recorder part illustrates the furioso mood of the text – the part is notated in demi-semi quavers and the written-out arpeggios are even faster.
Thalheimer has made an excellent job of this compilation which should inspire recorder players to branch out into largely unknown repertoire. Great care has been taken with the research. All the sources are listed, the editorial is in English and German. Full marks for these excellent editions.
