Favorite Work of November 2016

cmEvery month a member of the Carus team introduces his/her favorite work, whether it be a choral piece, a CD, a songbook or an instrumental work. The recommendation for November 2016 was contributed by Charlotte Mohns .

Kinderlieder aus Deutschland und Europa

"Kinderlieder aus Deutschland und Europa" is a wonderfully varied song book, and not only from a musical point of view. At first glance it is the photography by Jan von Holleben which is terrific fun. I don't know how often I have already flicked through the book and grinned to myself with every picture. That's why the song book also makes a lovely present – because it immediately gives pleasure to children, parents, and anyone else the first time they look at it.

And naturally it also has something to offer musically: around 60 songs from many different European countries expand and enrich the familiar repertoire of German children's songs. They make a fresh, original impression and you notice that you don't always have to find something new – sometimes a glance beyond the boundaries of your own language or culture will suffice.

The children's songs have something to offer everyone, whether you are daring or not: for the cautious there are German singing texts for all the songs. You can accompany the songs yourself using the chord symbols, use the singalong CD, or, for the extremely cautious, listen to the accompanying CD by the "Vokalhelden der Berliner Philharmoniker" and hum along lightly at first. There's no excuse, fortunately. Because singing makes you happy!
