Julie Stewart-Lafin, an award-winning flutist, has a passion for teaching and working with children and has performed on concert stages around the world as a soloist, orchestral musician and chamber musician. Born in Scotland, she was a young student at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow at the age of eleven. Two years later, she performed her first solo concert in a BBC live program with the Academy Orchestra. She won the Academy Prize for Woodwinds twice. Subsequently, she completed her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Prof. Paul Edmund-Davies and Averil Williams, graduating with distinction in 1998. She made her debut as a soloist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in 1997 and, in the same year, with the London Symphony Orchestra in a performance of the Ibert Concerto for Flute. With the support of a DAAD scholarship, she studied at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart with Prof. Jean-Claude Gerard from 1998 onwards. She passed her performers’ examination with distinction in 2001.
