Heinrich Schütz is generally regarded as a master of the art of setting text to music, particularly the text of the Bible in its unaltered form which was of substantial significance to Lutheran doctrine. On the other hand, there are only few examples of settings of rhymed texts in Schütz's oeuvre. One of these is the so-called "Becker-Psalter," a collection of psalm translations by the Leipzig theologian Cornelius Becker. Shortly after the death of his wife, Schütz concentrated on this collection and set numerous verses to music. In the 15th volume of the Schütz Complete Recording, Hans-Christoph Rademann and his Dresdner Kammerchor present a colorful interpretation of a selection of these unusually unadorned, transparent, folk-like compositions. The cross-section of the CD is based on the selection of psalms that Schutz composed for his Psalms of David (Carus 83.255), thereby creating a sibling CD for these magnificent, multi-choral works.

Dans le cadre de l'intégrale de l'oeuvre de Heinrich Schütz avec le Dresdner Kammerchor et Hans-Christoph Rademann chez Carus paraît le cinquième volume comprenant les Cantiones Sacrae (SWV 53–93). En 1625 - en pleine Guerre de trente ans - Heinrich Schütz publia avec ce recueil son opus 4. Dans les 40 motets latins, il utilise des textes extraits du livre de prières de Andreas Musculus, qui reposent sur des psaumes, des textes évangéliques, et différentes prières. Si ces pièces hautement expressives n'ont pas encore atteint la popularité des autres grands recueils de Schütz, c'est peut-être aussi en raison des difficultés techniques auxquelles le compositeur soumet ses interprètes.

This work, representative of the high standard of the whole series, was awarded the German Record Critics’ Award in 2016. Lorsqu'il s'agit de faire honneur à l'art de Heinrich Schütz, son talent dans le maniement de la langue et du texte vient en première position. Dans Geistliche Chor-Music, une de ses œuvres centrales composée en 1648, on retrouve le même raffinement dans la mise en musique du contenu textuel.
Dans sa préface au recueil de 29 motets à 5, 6 et 7 voix, Schütz citait cette oeuvre comme modèle pour la composition sans basse continue – convaincu que tout jeune compositeur devait acquérir „les justes fondements d’un bon contrepoint“. Malgré le contrepoint strict qui marque un retour à la tradition ancienne, le „Musicus poeticus“ réussit à donner à ses motets un caractère fortement expressif.
Les motets isolés sont structurés différemment et se distinguent en longueur et caractère. De courtes pièces, plutôt sobres côtoient d'autres plus longues et de grande intensité expressive, l'optimisme joyeux côtoie la plainte implorante.

„Heinrich Schütz. L'enregistrement intégral “ : dans les prochaines années, l'enregistrement intégral des œuvres de Heinrich Schütz sous la direction de Hans-Christoph Rademann sera réalisé sous le label Carus. Les œuvres seront interprétées d'après les canons de la musique ancienne par des solistes de renom et le Dresdner Kammerchor. De 1609 à 1612, Schütz eut la chance de pouvoir étudier trois ans à Venise auprès de Giovanni Gabrieli, grâce à une bourse de son mécène, le comte Moritz von Hessen-Kassel. Il conclut son séjour par la publication en 1611 d'un recueil de madrigaux, Il Primo libro de Madrigali. Son Opus primus révèle déjà le compositeur exceptionnel que deviendra Schütz : ses 18 madrigaux à cinq voix dépassent dans leur qualité musicale le reste de la production du début du 17ème siècle dans le genre du madrigal traditionnel.

With a total of 22 CDs and countless concerts the first German composer of European statue will be given a tangible monument. The Kleine geistliche Konzerte, Part 1 is volume 7 of the series and the first of the CDs within the complete recording that present solo concertos by Schutz. With Dorothee Mields, Ulrike Hofbauer and the other soloists the best singers for this early baroque repertoire are performing together on this disc.

Heinrich Schütz’s compositions were hugely influenced by the horrors of the Thirty Years’ War. He continually assimilated his anxious and painful experiences into his works, but in the process created an optimistic, peaceful view of the future. His Kleine geistliche Konzerte II are also a highly sensitive response to the social conditions of the time. A CD recording of these works is now being released as part of the Schütz Complete Recording. This is one of the last recordings with the harpsichordist, organist, and conductor Ludger Rémy, who died in 2017 after a long illness. Hans-Christoph Rademann pays tribute to his long-time colleague in a personal foreword.

As part 3, the “Musikalische Exequien,” which Schütz composed in 1635/36 for the funeral of his Sovereign Heinrich Posthumus Reuss, will now be released. Further songs of mourning, some for solo voices, round out the CD. Included among these are works which have never been recorded before. In the complete recording of Schütz’s works, The Psalms of David constitute a pinnacle not only in the composer’s oeuvre but also in this edition – splendid, often polychoral music, captured in breathtaking surround sound and a luxurious ensemble are just some of the features that have made this recording into a veritable Schütz feast. The Dresdner Kammerchor and the Dresdner Barockorchester under Hans-Christoph Rademann are supported by renowned soloists, among whom particularly Dorothee Mields and Stephan MacLeod rank among the top international specialists for historically informed performance practice. En 1671, à l’âge de 86 ans, Heinrich Schütz met fin à son activité de compositeur avec la mise en musique monumentale du Psaume 119, complétée par celle du Psaume 100 et d’un Magnificat allemand. Cet ensemble d’œuvres connu sous le nom de « Schwanengesang » (Chant du Cygne) est une profession de foi musicale très personnelle, qui se distingue par son élégance et sa profondeur spirituelle. Dans le cadre de l’intégrale de Schütz, le Dresdner Kammerchor sous la direction de Hans-Christoph Rademann présente de nouveau un enregistrement de référence qui met parfaitement en valeur à la fois les parties chantées et les parties parlées de l’œuvre.

Cet enregistrement du Schwanengesang, dont seulement certaines parties ont été conservées, se base sur la partition de Werner Breig dans le cadre de l’édition Schütz de Stuttgart, parue en novembre 2017 seulement. Pour de nombreux passages, elle recommande d’autres possibilités de reconstitution que la version de 1984 et aborde ainsi le Schwanengesang d’une manière totalement inédite.

Volume 11 of the celebrated complete recording of Schütz’s works presents the St. Matthew Passion, SWV 479. Schütz’s Passions according to the evangelists Matthew, Luke and John were all commissioned by the court in Dresden: they were pure a cappella settings of high artisanal standard combined with a profound, intensely personal expressivity, these works form the conclusion of Schütz’s settings of biblical scenes. They are the mature works of old age, representing, as it were, the crowning conclusion of an entire musical epoch. The St. Matthew Passion, the last of the three passion settings, was composed in 1666. Particularly in this work the composer called for the Bible texts to be sung in an emphatic declamatory style, requiring flawless intonation and perfect comprehensibility of the words. These requirements are effortlessly met by Georg Poplutz as the Evangelist and the excellent Dresdner Kammerchor under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann. The CD program is ideally complemented by the "Litania" SWV 458, the psalm setting "In dich habe ich gehoffet, Herr" SWV 128, as well as "O du allersüßester und liebster Herr Jesu" SWV 340.

Heinrich Schütz spent his whole life searching for that which is new in music. The Symphoniae Sacrae I, which were presented in 1629, also testify to this. Schütz composed them as a result of the impressions made upon him by his second journey to Venice. In addition to the numerous Italian stylistic traits which can be traced back to Monteverdi, the 20 concertos – all in Latin – particularly impress with their great variety of timbres: solo pieces, duets and trios for all voice type are combined with diverse string and wind instruments and are governed by the emotional and expressive world of the text. The recording impressively continues the award-winning Schütz complete recording with the Dresdner Kammerchor conducted by Hans-Christoph Rademann with the customary top-quality soloists such as Dorothee Mields, Felix Schwandtke and others.
