Polyphonia Ensemble Berlin

A propos de la personne

Musicians from the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin founded the Polyphonia Ensemble Berlin in 2000, initially as a wind quintet. They soon wanted to play larger-scale, interesting chamber music for different expanded ensembles, particularly seldom-heard works from all periods, and to perform these for a wider public. Thus the Ensemble grew in size. Over the last few years it has worked on a wide range of chamber music repertoire, in all imaginable combinations from wind trio to mixed nonet, playing works from the Viennese classics to contemporary repertoire, presenting truly unusual and original programs. The Ensemble has made numerous foreign tours in collaboration with Deutsche Welle radio, the German Federal Foreign Office and other German cultural institutions. It has visited Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Algeria, Morocco, Israel, the Palestinian Autonomous Territories, Brazil, and Turkey. As well as concerts, encounters and collaborations with local musicians, music students, and children interested in music form a key component of these tours. The present CD is the second collaborative recording of the ensemble with the Berlin Radio Choir; already in 2014, Carus published a recording of Dvorák’s Mass in D major in an arrangement for choir and wind quintet.
