Händels "Israel in Egypt" ist nicht nur ein umfangreiches Oratorium, es wird vor allem in großen Teilen vom Chor und weniger von Solisten bestritten. Im ersten Teil, der auch separat als Funeral Anthem aufgeführt werden kann, ist der dementsprechende Singtext zusätzlich kursiv unterlegt. | 1685-1759Georg Friedrich Händel stellte früh seine außergewöhnlich universellen kompositorischen Fähigkeiten unter Beweis. Nachdem er 1712 nach London übergesiedelt war, schuf er dort – 1723 zum Composer of Musick for His Majesty’s Chapel Royal ernannt – zahlreiche Meisterwerke für den Königshof sowie seine großen Opere Serie: Über Jahre feierte er mit den von Ausnahme-Interpreten gesungenen Opern oder mit Serenaden, später auch mit Oratorien wie „Saul“ oder „Israel in Egypt“, triumphale Erfolge. Im Laufe der Jahre wuchs Händels Ruhm weit über seinen Wirkungsort hinaus; einige seiner Chorwerke, vor allem der „Messiah“, verfügen über eine bis heute ungebrochene Aufführungstradition und werden von Chören auf der ganzen Welt gesungen. zur Person
