Iceland’s folk stories are shaped by the island’s harsh climate and dark winters. The rugged landscapes provide the backdrop for the tales and myths, often featuring fantastic creatures such as trolls and elves, that have been passed down from generation to generation. However, the story on which the Icelandic lullaby “Sofðu unga ástin mín” is based actually happened in the mid-18th century. The events inspired Johann Sigurjonsson to write his play Bjærg-Eyvind og hans hustru (Mountain-Eyvind and his Wife) from 1911. This is the story of Fjalla-Eyvindur, an Icelander found guilty of theft, who, together with his wife Halla, flees into Iceland’s mountain regions. Legend says that the couple survived for 20 years in the wilderness. In Sigurjonsson’s play, Halla sings the lullaby taken up by Elisabeth Fußeder before flinging her child into a waterfall to keep it out of the hands of her pursuers.
The young composer has already won numerous prizes for her music. With its intensity and sensitive treatment of the lullaby text, Sofðu unga ástin mín is a captivating work. In addition to sung words and sounds, Fußeder uses other vocal techniques such as speaking, whispering, audible breathing, whistling and shouting.
To make the piece more accessible to ambitious amateur choirs, the composer has created a reduced, less challenging version (Carus 9.310/50; SATB, choral speaking, narrator).

| 2000Elisabeth Fußeder est née en 2000 à Munich et a pu nouer ses premiers contacts avec la composition dans sa ville natale de Freising auprès du compositeur Rodolphe Haimann. En 2018, elle a obtenu son diplôme avec mention à l'école professionnelle de musique musication de Nuremberg.
La compositrice a déjà reçu des commandes pour, entre autres, le via-nova-chor München, l'ensemble rechérche, le Bundesjugendchor, le festival code modern, le Bayerischer Landesjugendchor, l'ensemble bâlois False relationships and the extended ending et la chorale de filles de la cathédrale de Fribourg. En 2024 suivront des projets avec l'ensemble vocal Lauschwerk, l'orchestre philharmonique de Stuttgart et à nouveau le Bundesjugendchor. La composition d'Elisabeth Fußeder may-be-peace pour cinq voix a reçu en 2022 le prix spécial du concours Valentin Becker. En 2023, in tenebris pour chœur mixte a été récompensé par un prix au concours de composition randspiele Zepernick. Lors du concours Jugend komponiert Bayern, sous la direction artistique du compositeur Minas Borboudakis, ses œuvres ont également été primées à plusieurs reprises.
Poussée par sa passion pour les chœurs, Elisabeth Fußeder est membre de plusieurs ensembles, dont le membre fondateur du sextuor vocal "Chiave", qui a remporté plusieurs prix spéciaux au niveau fédéral. Depuis octobre 2020, elle étudie la composition avec le professeur Brice Pauset et le solfège avec le professeur Konrad Georgi à la Hochschule für Musik Freiburg.
