Gottfried August Homilius
| 1714-1785Gottfried August Homilius, the son of a pastor, was born in Rosenthal (Saxony) on 2 February 1714. In May 1735 he enrolled as a law student at Leipzig University. Likewise, it was probably at this time that Homilius was a pupil of Johann Sebastian Bach; the latter fact had been attested to by Johann Adam Hiller. Apart from Bach, Homilius also had contact with Johann Schneider, a Bach pupil and organist at the Nicolaikirche, for whom he also substituted. After unsuccesfully applying for a post as organist in Bautzen, Homilius was appointed organist at the Dresden Frauenkirche in 1742. In 1755 Homilius succeeded Theodor Christlieb Reinhold as Kreuzkantor and music director of the three main churches in Dresden, a position that he occupied until his death on 2 June 1785. Ses domaines de travail s'étendent de l'époque de Monteverdi et de Schütz au classicisme viennois en passant par Bach et la génération des fils et élèves de Bach. sirventes berlin
The vocal ensemble sirventes berlin is totally dedicated to early music for small forces and new a cappella music. The group is committed to neglected works from Germany’s rich musical heritage. At the same time the musicians offer a platform for new compositions and engage in interdisciplinary projects. The ensemble comprises soloists from the Berlin Radio Choir, the RIAS Kammerchor and freelance singers. For almost five years sirventes berlin, in a double quartet formation, has presented “NoonSong” concerts every Saturday at 12:00 noon in the Church at Hohenzollernplatz in Berlin- Wilmersdorf – a musical hour of prayer based on the model of Anglican evensong. These performances have resulted in a repertoire of over 200 a cappella motets, including ten premieres. Since then NoonSong has gone on to become more than just an insiders’ tip; every week 150 to 200 visitors listen to the polyphonic liturgy. As supporters of a living tradition, Berlin being the only place where it can be heard in this form in Germany, sirventes berlin made a very successful guest appearance at the Abu Gosh Vocal Festival in Israel in the summer of 2013. Mit ‘Habe deine Lust an dem Herrn’ liegt nun eine zweite Einspielung mit Motetten vor, die das Sirventes-Ensemble in einen reinen und schlanken Chorklang kleidet. Dirigent Stefan Schuck setzt auf zügige Tempi, die noch reichlich Spielraum lassen für eine akkurate Deklamation, der Musik insgesamt einen spritzigen, leichten Charakter vermitteln.
