Le Messie du compositeur suédois Sven-David Sandström est une commande commune de l'“Oregon Bach Festival“ et de la „Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart“ pour l'année Händel. Conformément au souhait des commanditaires, l'œuvre se base sur le livret anglais de Charles Jennens, que Händel avait mis en musique il y a 260 ans dans son oratorio. Ce Messie du 21ème siècle se caractérise par sa grande expressivité et ses couleurs orchestrales, dans une composition où la modernité et la beauté du son ne sont pas contradictoires – en accord avec le credo artistique de Sandström : „Ma musique doit être accessible dès la première écoute et toucher les gens !“
