Frequent questions about this work

Which choirs is the Warm-Up-Box suitable for? Who developed the exercises?

The Warm-Up-Box is designed for all choirs and vocal ensembles – regardless of genre, performance level, and age of the singers. Whether children's, youth, or adult choir, whether beginners or advanced: The 80 exercises can be flexibly adapted to your rehearsal and the current challenges facing your ensemble. The Warm-Up-Box was compiled by choir expert Tristan Meister and combines the collective expertise of seven renowned voice teachers: Klaus Brecht, Judith Kamphues, Julian Knörzer, Judith Mohr, Salome Niedecken, Cornelius Trantow, and Esther Witt – all specialists in excellent voice training and successful choir work.
Yes, but not every exercise is suitable for this very specific phase of a young voice. Avoid exercises in extreme ranges or at high volume and focus on breathing exercises and exercises with a light, relaxed vocal onset.
The Warm-Up-Box is deliberately designed as a card box to give choir directors maximum flexibility in everyday rehearsals. Individual cards can be quickly selected, recombined, or even passed on to assistants – without the hassle of leafing through a book. This allows vocal training to be adapted spontaneously to the choir’s current lineup, the time available, or the focus of the moment (breathing, intonation, vocal agility, etc.). The handy box format also supports mobile use directly at the conductor’s stand.
In the “Explore” section at the top of the website, under “View”, you can view the instructions, the legend, and the foreword by editor Tristan Meister. The 80 cards are divided into 8 thematic categories: Warm-Up, Breathing exercises, Basic exercises, Low and High, Resonance and Voice Placement, Register Balance and Articulation, Intonation and Dynamics, as well as Bonus exercises on Part-singing, Balance, Ear Training, Harmonic Listening, Cluster Sounds, Homogeneity, Agreements, and Rhythm Training. This allows you to quickly find the right exercise for your current rehearsal goals.
No! The cards are ready to use immediately. Thanks to short, concise explanations and clear pictograms, you can implement the exercises directly in rehearsal without preparation. The format enables spontaneous and flexible work. The exercises are clearly and practically formulated so that they can be quickly understood without additional media (as video or audio) and implemented directly with the choir. Some exercises are illustrated with drawings.
The Warm-Up-Box specifically addresses typical choir problems: descending alto voices, pressed high notes in soprano or tenor, basses who can't find their voice placement, intonation difficulties, or lack of tonal balance. Each exercise leads to a direct sonic result.
The box is a sturdy, easy-to-open cardboard sleeve. The cards themselves are made of thick, robust cardboard – they withstand frequent use and can easily be written on with a pen, for example for your own notes or choir-specific instructions. The cards are not available in digital format. They are designed to be taken out of the box individually, depending on your choir’s vocal training session, and placed on the music stand in front of you. Unfortunately, the Warm-Up-Box is currently only available in German.
Yes, you may use the cards as part of your choral work – including workshops or training sessions, provided that their use is directly related to your educational work or rehearsals. The cards and their artwork are protected by copyright. They may therevor not be copied, scanned, or reproduced in your own publications or online materials. For special usage requests (e.g., reproduction in training handouts), please contact us directly at Carus-Verlag. The cards are not available for individual purchase; only the complete box is available.
