CREDO

1700 Years of the Christian Creed

The Nicene Creed, the Christian profession of faith, is central to most mass compositions. 1700 years ago, in the course of the Council of Nicaea (325), the process of agreeing on a creed was initiated. The final form of the Creed is the profession of faith to which all Christian churches around the world refer. Carus is honoring this special anniversary with a commission to six composers from around the world. We would also like to support you in planning a special anniversary program with our repertoire recommendations.

  • Credo. Six Composers – Six Parts – One Christian Faith

Carus is honoring the 1700th anniversary with a composition commission. Six composers from different countries around the world - Dominick DiOrio, Keiko Harada, Grayston (Bill) Ives, Victoria Vita Poleva, Marten Jansson and Martín Palmeri – each contribute their own unique sound language to create a multifaceted work that equally represents the major Christian denominations. A symbolic work for the unity, diversity and cohesion of the Christian community.

  • Credo Settings

The Credo remains an invitation to artistic exploration to this day. This also applies to a number of isolated individual settings of the Credo, for example by Antonio Vivaldi.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Klöckner, a renowned expert in Gregorian chant and liturgy, presents ten settings of the Credo from different eras and styles. Celebrate 1700 years of the Christian creed with us!
