Award winning at “females featured” competition 2025
Jay is based on a poem by British writer Robert Macfarlane. It celebrates the role of the bird as a “forest creator” while also reminding us that every living organism – whether feathered or scaly, leafy, thorny, or branched – plays a vital role in its own ecosystem. The choir mimics the bird’s call, fluttering through the poem in this short and joyful song.
Jay won 1st prize in the youth choir category at the females featured competition, but is equally suitable for adult choirs.
