Telemann himself confi rmed that church music played a central role in his compositions. In his autobiography of 1718 he already wrote: “This however I well know / that I always valued church music most highly / and searched among most in other authors on its behalf / and developed the most in it.” Carus is publishing a selection of works from the extraordinarily extensive church music oeuvre of this composer from Magdeburg.
