it leads me safe through all my trouble
to God I his long Promised Land.
There will I entomb all my sorrow and sighs,
my Saviour will wipe all the tears from my eyes.My journey through the world
is like a ship at sea.
Affliction woe, and want
are billows which cover me,
and which with death each day affright me;
the anchor that will hole me fast
is his compassion vast,
whereby he oft delight my soul.
He calls out to me:
"I am with thee,
and I will never leave thee nor forsake thee."
And when at length is calmed the angrily raging foam...

er kömmt von Gottes lieber Hand.
Der führet mich nach meinen Plagen
zu Gott in das gelobte Land.
Da leg ich den Kummer auf einmal ins Grab,
da wischt mir die Tränen mein Heiland selbst ab.Mein Wandel auf der Welt
ist einer Schifffahrt gleich:
Betrübnis, Kreuz und Not
sind Wellen, welche mich bedecken
und auf den Tod mich täglich schrecken,
mein Anker aber, der mich hält,
ist die Barmherzigkeit,
womit mein Gott mich oft erfreut.
Der rufet so zu mir:
"Ich bin bei dir,
ich will dich nicht verlassen noch versäumen!"

Paul Horn
| 1922-2016Paul Horn war ein deutscher Kirchenmusiker, Organist, Komponist und Musikwissenschaftler. Er studierte Kirchenmusik und Orgel an der Evangelischen Kirchenmusikschule Esslingen am Neckar bei Hans-Arnold Metzger und Musikwissenschaft, Theologie und Geschichte an der Universität Tübingen. Seine berufliche Laufbahn begann als Kantor an der Evangelischen Michaelskirche in Stuttgart-Degerloch. 1954 wurde er Kantor an der Evangelischen Stadtkirche Ravensburg, eine Position, die er bis zu seiner Pensionierung innehatte. Als Musikwissenschaftler arbeitete Horn bis ins hohe Alter eng mit Carus zusammen. So stammen zahlreiche Carus-Klavierauszüge aus seiner Feder. Personal details

Bach, Johann Sebastian: Kantate „Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen” BWV 56
Der Carus-Verlag legt diese Kantate, herausgegeben von Paul Horn, im Rahmen der Stuttgarter Bach-Ausgaben als Neuausgabe in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Bach-Archiv Leipzig vor. Die Kantate, die dem Chor nur den Schlusschoral zuweist, nur mit einem Basssolisten und neben den Streichern noch mit 2 Oboen rechnet, eignet sich hervorragend auch für die Aufführung in kleinen Verhältnissen. Die Ausgabe ist in dem vom Carus-Verlag gewohnten hervorragenden Notensatz versehen, der nichts zu tun hat mit dem unübersichtlichen Notenbild der Stuttgarter Bach-Ausgaben aus dem Hänssler-Verlag. Ausführliches Vorwort und Kritischer Bericht komplettieren auch hier die Ausgabe vorbildlich. Der Klavierauszug von Paul Horn orientiert sich im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen an leichter Spielbarkeit und Übersichtlichkeit.
