  • Albert Becker, geb. 1834 in Quedlinburg, gest. 1899 in Berlin. War von 1853 bis 1856 Kompositionsschüler von S. Dehn in Berlin. 1891 wurde er Leiter des Berliner Domchors; lehnte 1892 auf Wunsch des Kaisers die ihm angebotene Nachfolge W. Rusts als Thomaskantor ab. Komponierte ab 1877 vorwiegend geistliche Chormusik. Wichtigste Werke: Messe in b-Moll (1878), Reformationskantate (1883) und Kirchenoratorium "Selig aus Gnade" (1890). Personal details
  • Born in Brand, Bavaria, in 1873, Reger studied music in Munich and Wiesbaden with Hugo Riemann. From 1905 on he worked at the Academy in Munich as a teacher for organ and composition. He moved in 1907 to Leipzig to become the music director of the university until 1908 and professor of composition at the conservatory until his early death in 1916. Personal details
