Zu den großen, wenn auch kaum bekannt gewordenen Te Deum-Vertonungen der Übergangszeit zwischen Klassik und Romantik gehört zweifellos auch das zu seiner Zeit ungedruckt gebliebene Te Deum von Antonin Rejcha von 1825, das hier als Erstausgabe vorliegt. Schon die Grundtonart E-Dur hebt das reich besetzte Werk von vielen anderen Vertonungen des „ambrosianischen Lobgesangs“ ab. Besetzung, Satztypen und Kolorit werden von Rejcha klar und abwechslungsreich eingesetzt. Die Komposition bietet dem Chor eine Fülle lohnender Aufgaben, namentlich in den großen oratorischen Rahmenchören Nr. 1 und 11 sowie in den Doppelfugen Nr. 4 und 9, letzere durchweg „mezza voce“, also leise vorzutragen – ein Effekt der stillen Art!
