  • Arnold Mendelssohn, born 1855 in Ratibor, died 1933 in Darmstadt. Son of a cousin of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Studied law, from 1877 music in Berlin. Worked at the conservatory in Frankfurt/Main from 1912; teacher of Hindemith. Contributed to the renewal of Protestant church music. His music became a model for the youth movement due to the simplicity of its message and his preference for polyphonic movements. Personal details
