Johann Samuel Beyer Chorale variations for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany

Read and write feedback

Johann Samuel Beyer (1669–1744) assumed the position of Kantor at St. Mary's Cathedral in Freiberg (Saxony) in 1699. Between 1716 and 1719 his Musicalische Vorrath (Musical source), a comprehensive collection of two-part chorale variations for organ or other keyboard instruments was published.

The selection in the present volume offers an attractive enrichment for organists of liturgical repertoire for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. An optional figured bass realization for the bass line has been added in small print. Clearly, practiced organists can shape and elaborate these pieces by means of improvisation.
