Johanna Kinkel gehörte zu den produktivsten Komponistinnen der Romantik. Sie schrieb Lieder, Duette, Kantaten, Singspiele und gab Unterrichtsverwerke heraus. Ihre Vogelkantate schrieb sie im Alter von 20 Jahren. Schon ihre Zeitgenoss*innen führten diesen „musikalischen Scherz“ gerne auf.
Die Kantate ist ein musikalischer Wettstreit um den Dirigentenstab und um falsche Töne für 5 Soli, Chor ad libitum und Klavier/Cembalo.
