anima
Award winning at “females featured” competition 2025
In the choral piece anima, composer Katharina Schwaller lets us experience the multifaceted nature of the human soul through music. She achieves this by creating a five-part texture to reflect the soul’s many nuances and emotions. Dense soundscapes alternate with delicate, floating vocal structures to create a multi-layered universe of sound.
The starting point is the image of being awakened in the morning by a gentle breeze, and experiencing the world and nature entirely through our ears. Imitations of bird call ease the listener into a sonic perception of the environment. As the piece progresses, the different vocal lines gradually take on a narrative role.
An accessible and atmospheric work for mixed-voice choir.
