Aus der Oper "Die Feen", Beginn des 2. Aktes. Prinz Arindal von Tramond und sein Jäger Gernot sind während der Hirschjagd auf unerklärliche Weise ins Feenreich gelangt. Dort verlieben sich der sterbliche Arinald und die unsterbliche Fee Ada ineinander. Sie dürfen aber nur unter der Bedingung heiraten, dass Arinald Ada acht Jahre lang nicht fragt, wer sie ist. Arinald willigt ein, bricht aber kurz vor Ablauf der Frist sein Versprechen. Daraufhin verstößt der Feenkönig Arinald aus dem Feenreich. Morald und Gunther, Abgesandte Tramonds finden den unglücklich umherirrenden Arinald und bewegen ihn zur Rückkehr ins Reich seines kürzlich verstorbenen Vaters. Dort wird das Volk gerade von einer feindlichen Übermacht bedrängt und besiegt.
