Since the time of the ancient Greeks, the four elements of earth, air, fire and water have been regarded as the origin of all life. In his choral cycle Elements for mixed choir SATB con divisi, Stephan Görg has added love as a fifth element – based on the belief that peaceful coexistence and survival on our planet are only achievable through the power of love.

The complete cycle is available under Carus 9.334/00.

Additional product information
  • Song accompanist, improviser, conductor, arranger, teacher - or simply musician. It is not so easy to accurately describe the profile of Stephan Görg, born in 1968. Through a variety of artistic and pedagogical activities, Stephan Görg has developed an unusually broad profile in our specialised musical landscape over the last few years. It makes no difference to the seriousness of his approach to music whether he is playing classical, pop or jazz. For him, each genre has its own aesthetic demands, its own beauties. There is valuable and less valuable music in every genre.

For the development of his musical personality, the ambivalence of seemingly widely divergent areas of activity and the resulting areas of tension seem to be of enormous importance: Music - sport, artist - teacher in schools and universities, classical music - jazz/pop, interpreting - improvising, elementary music education - collaboration with renowned artists.

Stephan Görg's broad profile led to his appointment as Professor of Practical Piano Playing and Improvisation at the Cologne University of Music and Dance in 2004. There he founded the now award-winning jazz/pop choir Vocal Journey, which he has co-directed with Erik Sohn since 2010 and for which he arranges most of the pieces himself. Together with Erik Sohn, he also launched the VOCCOLOGNE vocal festival in 2008. In a very short space of time, this has become a permanent fixture on the international vocal jazz scene.

We asked the composer 6 questions, read them here in our blog: https://blog.carus-verlag.com/en/personalities/6-questions-for-stephan-goerg/
