For the reopening of the extensively renovated Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth, the opera Artaserse was performed on April 12, 2018, largely with music by Johann Adolf Hasse. This special event also provided
the occasion for an international symposium with participants from Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany. The lectures focused on questions about Hasse’s operas and their performance practice; however,
other topics were also discussed. The present volume contains the presentations given at that time in an updated and partly expanded form.
