Engelbert Humperdinck, born in Siegburg in 1854, died in Neustrelitz in 1921. Studied in Cologne (with F. Hiller and others), Munich (with J.G. Rheinberger and Fr. Lachner) and in Italy; taught in Barcelona, Frankfurt and Berlin. His main work is the fairytale opera ‘Hansel and Gretel’.
