Personal details

The writer, composer and conductor Florence Ashton Marshall, who also published under the name “Mrs. Julian Marshall”, grew up in London. She did not begin piano and composition studies at the the Royal Academy of Music until the age of 30 and went on to compose works for orchestra, instrumental ensembles, songs and choral music. In addition she wrote several articles for the Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians.
