Heinrich Bach

– 1692

Personal details

Heinrich Bach (1615–1692), Johann Bach?s younger brother, dominated the musical life of Arnstadt for more than half a century. In this case, too, the ill-fated times were responsible for the loss of almost all his compositions. Only the sonorous sacred concerto written in the Venetian style "Ich danke dir, Gott"has, fortunately, been preserved in the music library of the Michaeliskirche in Erfurt. The elegiac lamento "Ach, daß ich Wassers gnug hätte" is also attributed in an early source to Heinrich Bach, but within the Bach family tradition this work is considered to be by his son J.Chr. Bach.
