Personal details

He began to study theology in Leipzig, but dropped out early. From then on, he spent his life as a musician in many places. His journey took him to Gdansk, Königsberg, Hamburg, Copenhagen and finally Riga, where he remained as cathedral organist until his death in 1701. His surviving oeuvre includes operas as well as sacred choral works.
