Markus Köhler

Personal details

Markus Köhler, born in Leipzig, was a member of St Thomas’s Choir and studied singing at the Dresden Musikhochschule and the University of the Arts Berlin. He attended courses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Aribert Reimann, and has been a prizewinner in various competitions. As well as stage engagements, he has made his name especially as a concert singer and lieder interpreter. Performances in Germany and abroad in many renowned concert halls, with well-known conductors, choruses and orchestras, and at festivals including the Berlin Festival, Weimar Arts Festival, Gustav Mahler Music Weeks in Toblach, and the Dresden Music Festival, on radio and television for RIAS, SFB, NDR, WDR, MDR and Deutschlandradio, and CD recordings with classical and contemporary compositions reflect his wide-ranging artistic activities. Markus Köhler is Professor of Singing at the Musikhochschule in Detmold.
