Musica Alta Ripa
Personal details
The instrumental ensemble Musica Alta Ripa was founded in 1984. In tandem with their personal careers, the members of the group have formed an internationally sought-after band of musicians that for many years has been invited to play in major concert series and festivals on account of its high artistic standards, wealth of interpretative color, flexible ensemble, and attractive repertoire. The breadth of this repertoire is documented by a variety of projects including the stage production of Giasone by Francesco Cavalli and Solche Wunderwercke by Agostino Steffani at the Hannover Opera, and the production Purcell in love in Hannover-Herrenhausen. For many years, Musica Alta Ripa has been making its mark with unusual and prize-winning CDs (e.g., Diapason d’Or, ECHO Klassik, Cannes Classical Award). In addition to Italian chamber cantatas and instrumental music of the German and French late baroque, the ensemble has recorded the solo concertos and the flute and violin sonatas of J. S. Bach and a cycle of Telemann’s overtures, sonatas and concertos. In recognition of its artistic work, Musica Alta Ripa was awarded the Music Prize of Lower Saxony for 2002. In 2004, for the second time, the group was named best chamber music ensemble by ECHO Klassik.
