The LIEDERPROJEKT website www.liederprojekt.org offers an extensive archive of songs, free of charge. Almost all the songs in the project are available here free of charge, with music PDFs and all the song texts, instrumental versions and sung versions, as well as many podcasts with detailed background information. The LIEDERPROJEKT – a charitable project for singing with children run by Carus and SWR2 – celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2019. Ten years in which a great deal has been achieved to re-establish singing in society. Ten years which have seen the publication of eleven song books, over 20 CDs, numerous instrumental books, choral volumes, and countless radio podcasts – all with the aim of saving the rich cultural treasury of songs from falling into oblivion, and encouraging children and adults alike to actively take part in singing. Parallel with this, an invaluable online archive has been built up where all the songs are available, free of charge. And almost half a million Euros has been donated to projects which promote singing with children. We are really thrilled about this sustainable success story: singing is the “in” thing once again today! As the initiator of this project, I am really delighted that from a somewhat daring idea back then, such a well-received and successful music package for children, young people, parents, grandparents, and teachers was able to grow. Starting with a collection of lullabies and cradle songs, over the last ten years a major project has developed with countless folk songs, Christmas carols, children’s songs, and art songs. I am hugely grateful that so many singers and instrumentalists have contributed with engagement – children, professionals, and ensembles – supported and encouraged by enthusiastic graphic designers and authors, the staff of the various publishers, and the broadcaster SWR, all supported by a positive reception in the press. Magnificent!
