Cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach
The cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach reflects a tremendous amount of work. Most of the 190 surviving sacred cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, with the exception of a few early works and compositions written for particular occasions, can be shown by study of the source material and of stylistic features to belong to three annual cycles. If the famous statement quoted in Bach's obituary is to be taken literally, it appears that two fifths of the church cantatas which he composed have been lost. All sacred cantatas are available from Carus with complete performance material. For the overview page "Bach cantatas for Sundays and feast days in the church year" click >>here.
