With his three Latin psalms composed in 1707 on a journey to Italy, the 22-year-old George Frideric Handel attracted attention for his exceptional gifts – for his festive richness of sound, wealth of contrasts, and stylistic variety. After moving to London in 1712, as Composer of Musick for His Majesty’s Chapel Royal Handel wrote several anthems for the English royal house, including the Funeral Music for Queen Caroline, later re-used as the first part of his oratorio Israel in Egypt.
