Stylistically, this anonymous sonata for scordatura violin, which has been preserved in the holdings of the Dresden Court Orchestra, points to the southern German-Austrian school of violin, and it shows the high level of the art of violin playing in Germany in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. A contemporary, handwritten note on the cover of the music refers to Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber and there are actually amazing similarities to works by this composer which would suggest that he indeed composed the work. However, a definitive clarification of this question must remain open.

With his wife Waltraud he founded Carus-Verlag Stuttgart in 1972, which he built up from a 2-person family firm to a medium-sized business with around 60 employees. A trained church musician and Kantor for many years at the Matthäuskirche Stuttgart, he also directed the Motettenchor Stuttgart for 50 years.   • Martina Graulich, violin, has a special interest in early music, which led to her joining the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. In 2003 the Ensemble Ciacona was founded which specializes in Bohemian, Italian and German violin music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Martina Graulich has been invited as a teacher to the Encontros de Musica da Casa de Mateus in Portugal. She has made numerous CD recordings, including the London Symphonies (Haydn) in the arrangement for quintet by Solomon with the Camerata of the 18th Century, Amsterdam. Er studierte Kirchenmusik und Orgel an der Evangelischen Kirchenmusikschule Esslingen am Neckar bei Hans-Arnold Metzger und Musikwissenschaft, Theologie und Geschichte an der Universität Tübingen. Seine berufliche Laufbahn begann als Kantor an der Evangelischen Michaelskirche in Stuttgart-Degerloch. 1954 wurde er Kantor an der Evangelischen Stadtkirche Ravensburg, eine Position, die er bis zu seiner Pensionierung innehatte.
