Cantata for the 8th Sunday after Trinity BWV 45, 1726
Bach's cantata Es ist dir gesagt, Mensch, was gut ist (He showeth to thee, man, what right is) BWV 45 belongs to a group of cantatas from 1726, but the texts were drawn from a cantata cycle Bach had composed for Meiningen a good twenty years earlier. The work links the profound words from the liturgical calendar reading Matthew 7:15-23 and the Old Testament prophet Micah with Bach's unique musical language. Alongside the magnificent opening chorus and the alternating recitatives and arias, the Vox Christi (Voice of Christ) is heard in a long arioso at the beginning of the second part. The final chorale focusses on the questions of human action and the consequences of obedience or transgression.

| 1922-2016Paul Horn war ein deutscher Kirchenmusiker, Organist, Komponist und Musikwissenschaftler. Er studierte Kirchenmusik und Orgel an der Evangelischen Kirchenmusikschule Esslingen am Neckar bei Hans-Arnold Metzger und Musikwissenschaft, Theologie und Geschichte an der Universität Tübingen. Seine berufliche Laufbahn begann als Kantor an der Evangelischen Michaelskirche in Stuttgart-Degerloch. 1954 wurde er Kantor an der Evangelischen Stadtkirche Ravensburg, eine Position, die er bis zu seiner Pensionierung innehatte. Als Musikwissenschaftler arbeitete Horn bis ins hohe Alter eng mit Carus zusammen. So stammen zahlreiche Carus-Klavierauszüge aus seiner Feder. Personal details
