Additional product information
  • Lucia Birzer is a conductor and composer from Bavaria. Since the 2024/25 season, she has been engaged as choir director and conductor at the Regensburg Theatre.

The versatile musician enjoys both working in the theatre, where the focus is on storytelling, and making music in concert. When composing, it is important to her to find textual bases with which she can identify and to place words and textual content at the centre of the composition. Having worked as a choir director, she knows the choir as an instrument and the various means of vocal expression well, which is why she mainly composes choral music. Stylistically, she moves between the influences of earlier eras, the creative means of new music and echoes of the popular music of her generation.

Lucia Birzer was one of three winners of the Bavarian Composition Prize of the via-nova-chor in 2024 and is 1st prize winner of the FemalesFeatured competition of the Chorakademie Baden-Württemberg 2023. Her choral compositions and commissioned works are performed throughout Germany by various vocal ensembles and choirs such as the via-nova-Chor, the Audi Jugendchorakademie, the Kammerchor HamburgVOKAL and others. She also writes orchestral arrangements and adaptations for the theatre stage, including incidental music for the play ‘Peterchens Mondfahrt’, which premiered at the Hof Theatre in 2024.

As a conductor, Birzer works with choirs such as the RIAS Kammerchor and the Zürcher Singakademie, as well as orchestras such as the Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt, the Hofer Symphoniker and the Philharmonisches Orchester Regensburg, and completed her studies in school music and choral conducting in Munich and Weimar, as well as during a semester abroad in Stockholm. She has been a scholarship holder of the Forum Dirigieren since 2022 and was accepted into the concert promotion programme (formerly ‘Maestros von morgen’) in 2024. She was a finalist in the German Prize for Choral Conducting and the Hugo Alfven Conducting Competition.
