Personal details
Felicitas Kuckuck studied piano, flute and composition in Berlin, where
she lived and composed until 1945 despite her part-Jewish origins. In the
final weeks of the war, she fled to Hamburg, where she lived until her
death in 2001. A street in Altona has been named after her since 2016.
She composed more than 1000 works. Her most famous composition is
probably “Es führt über den Main,” which has achieved folk song status.
Her manuscripts and papers are now held at the Archive of Women and
Music in Frankfurt am Main.
