László Halmos

1909 – 1997

Personal details

László Halmos, who lived from 10 November 1909 to 26 January 1997, was one of Hungary's most important church musicians. His numerous works are characterised by incredible creative power combined with vivid imagination. There is not a Sunday or holiday in the church year for which he did not compose at least one motet. Halmos' sacred works were primarily written for use on Sundays. With a few exceptions, they are easy to sing and suitable for any choral group. They are characterised by their simplicity and naturalness.
