What is the Conductor’s Coach?

The Conductor’s Coach is an app which is designed to help train conductors in the sequences of movements necessary for a clear and efficient conducting technique. 

 

How can I get the Conductor’s Coach?

It’s available as a browser-based app via this link: http://conductors-coach.carus-verlag.com/  You don’t need to install it on any devices.

 

Which browser do I need to use the app?

In principle you can choose any of the usual browsers (such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari), although we would recommend Chrome for Windows PCs and Android devices. Please make sure that you have downloaded the latest version of whichever browser you choose.

 

Do I need a separate account to use Conductor’s Coach?

You need to login to the web app with the same email and password which you used in our webshop to purchase the time-limited license for the app. If you use a different account you won’t be able to access the app content.

What does the Conductor’s Coach cost?

We offer time-limited licenses for one month, three months, one year or four years. If you wish to try out the app, choose the free one-day license, which is valid immediately and can be used until the end of the following day. The prices can be found on the product page in our webshop.


How can I purchase a license?

You can buy a license from our webshop. In the “Purchase” section just add a license for the desired duration to your shopping cart. The license will be activated for your chosen period immediately after your order has been completed. How can I check how long my license is still valid?

You can view the validity of your license in the “Profile” section of the app. Alternatively you can also go to the webshop and check your customer section under “My Conductor’s Coach”.

 

When does the license period start?

The license period begins immediately after the order is completed. That also applies if, for example, you have bought a license for three months but would now like to buy a license for a year.

 

I’ve already bought a license, but now I want to buy one for a longer term. Can I return the first license or get a refund?

With the purchase of digital products, the right of return expires if the customer expressly agrees that Carus begins to execute the contract, i.e. to provide the digital data, before the expiry of the revocation period, and the customer has confirmed his/her understanding that s/he loses the right of revocation by consenting to the beginning of the execution of the contract (see the general terms and conditions).

 

My license is ending. Will the term be extended automatically?

No, this is not a subscription. If you want to continue to use the app you must purchase a new license of your desired duration. You will receive a notification in the app shortly before your license runs out, and you can then purchase a new license in the Carus webshop.

 

Can I use the Conductor’s Coach on different devices?

Yes, the app is browser-based and so it can be used on different devices. Your Carus webshop account provides your access. We recommend using the app on a tablet or a desktop PC, because the display size is optimal and you can better recognize your own movements, for instance, when adding beats 

 

Can I order a license for the entire choral conducting course from Carus, that is, order a license from Carus together with Dirigieren – Proben – Singen. Das Chorleitungsbuch ?

Can I use the Conductor’s Coach offline?

No, it’s not possible to use the app offline. We recommend a stable WLAN connection for use.

 

I can’t see any videos. What’s happening?

Your license may have expired. Please check this in the relevant section of your customer account with Carus or in the Profile section on the app. If your license is up to date but there are still no videos available, please contact our support team at [email protected].

 

Can I set up a short-cut to the app on my desktop?

Yes, you can set up quick access to the app.

On an Apple device, start the Safari browser and search for the Conductor’s Coach. Click on the Action icon in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen, and then select “To Home Screen”. Click on “Add” to complete the process. This will add a new icon to your desktop.

On a Windows device, open the app in your browser. Reduce the size of the web browser so that you can see both the browser and the desktop. Now go to the address bar of your browser. Drag the small symbol next to the web address (a lock, info or globe) on to the desktop.

On an Android device, open the Conductor’s Coach in your browser and then click on the three dots at the top right. Choose the option “Add to home screen”, then click on “Add” to insert the website symbol automatically in a free position on the home screen. Alternatively you can hold your finger on the icon to select a position yourself. 


How do I use the conducting app?

After logging in, select a topic on the start page. Each topic starts with an introductory video. For some topics, such as conducting patterns, or cues, you’ll find corresponding exercises, which will help you to improve your own conducting techniques.

 

How do I practice with the Conductor’s Coach?

Each topic is subdivided into modules. An explanatory video is followed by an exercise or practice video, with the corresponding exercise in three different tempi, viz. 60, 70 or 90 beats per minute. These exercise or practice videos are looped, so that they repeat automatically ad infinitum. You can activate or cancel various tools via the buttons.

 

What additional tools are available?

With the Mirror video button, the video can be mirrored by 180 degrees This is useful, for example, for practicing topics such as the independence of hands.

The camera symbol activates the webcam and superimposes your own image over the practice video.

The Split screen button in the middle activates the split screen, setting the practice video and your own recording next to each other. You can vary the on- screen width of the videos. 

The metronome activates an audible metronome beat at the selected tempo.

If you click on the button for beating time in the center on the far right, this will display the conductor, which can be adjusted in size to the window or your own hand.

The cogwheel on the right allows you to adjust the resolution of the video.

The two buttons on the far right allow you to hide the track list on the right-hand side of the screen and to switch the video to full screen.


How can I change the tempo?

Each exercise in the Conductor's Coach can be played at 60, 70 or 90 bpm. Just select the corresponding practice video to change the tempo.

 

I can see the practice video, but I can’t see myself. How can I fix this?

If you can’t see a video of yourself, please first check whether the computer has an internal or external webcam. Have you given the browser permission to access the webcam? If the webcam can be covered, check whether the lens is clear and the camera is able to record.

 

I’m conducting in time to match the practice video, but it’s not showing that. Is this normal?

Yes, a small time delay between recording, transmission and playback of the image can occur and is quite normal.
