European Christmas Songs for Mixed Voices. Europa Cantat
Fish in the water dance with joy, butterflies made of snow float down from the clouds – and the baby Jesus receives gifts of figs and olives. This is Christmas, European style! The melodies from Festive songs and arrangements from all over Europe are just as diverse as these images and traditions.
When the continent’s borders opened up in the 1990s, the choral association Europa Cantat published two Carus collections of Christmas songs and arrangements: The stylistically diverse choral collection Hodie II featuring 53 Christmas songs for four-part mixed choir is now being reissued. The songs are printed in the original language along with English, French and German translations. Free pronunciation aids are available to help you get to know and rehearse the songs – many of the arrangements are also available as separate editions, in print or digital form.
