Corona is a time when singing falls silent. The organ has to “sing” the mass, the accompaniment comments: mystic thirds in the Kyrie, radiant chord patterns and trio playing in the Gloria, splayed pitches in the Credo, and a constantly shifting, powerful refrain in the Sanctus. Added to this are adventurous sounds: rattling and clattering, tracery, crackling and flickering, bells ringing.
