Organ works for Passiontide and Easter

Organ works for Passiontide and Easter

Here you will find a compilation of organ works for the Passion and Easter seasons in separate editions and organ collections. Many of the works are liturgically bound, such as the chorale preludes to the Gotteslob, but we also present unbound compositions such as the slow movements from Beethoven's piano sonatas arranged for organ and chamber music which, due to their mood, can be excellently embedded in Passion devotions and concerts.

  • Mendelssohn: Sonata in D minor

about the chorale O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden
The short fragment on the chorale "O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden" is probably originated during the great Bach concert which Mendelssohn presented at the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig in 1840. After careful study of Mendelssohn's organ sonatas, in 2007/08 Rudolf Lutz expanded the fragment into a sonata in the style of the composer.
