German Folk songs

The folk song project is a plea for the old songs, for the beauty of the melodies and the poetry of content and language which can still speak to young people today. The melodies of the folk songs often have that catchy tune which distinguishes music handed down orally. Over the centuries they have been arranged, varied, quoted, and performed instrumentally without text. With a melody often in the major key, characterized by triads, sequential passages and refrains, distinctive rhythms and simple four to eight-bar phrases, folk songs are ideal for musical amateurs, for children and for group singing, and are equally ideal as a model for more demanding genres in art music.
