Wiegenlieder aus aller Welt / Lullabies of the World
Songbook, with Singalong-CD, German
moreAll over the world, millions of mothers, fathers and grandparents get their children to sleep by the pacifying ritual of singing and rocking the infant or toddler. This custom has existed in all cultures, since the earliest days of mankind – it seems to spring from a fundamental, deeply human need to accompany the littlest ones as they fall asleep, to give them a feeling of security and belonging. The objective of the project “Lullabies of the World” is to compile an anthology of the most beautiful international lullabies and to show their diversity.
In this way, the prize-winning LIEDERPROJEKT promoting singing with children is being continued and becoming international. There are many similarities between the lullabies, but naturally also many contrasts between the individual regions and continents. For some time now, Russian mothers have been singing their “Bayu, bayushki, bayu”, or South African grandparents their “Thula baba”, not only in their home countries but also in Berlin, London or Rome. In this way, the anthology, CD and accompanying website present songs from far-away places as well as the colorful diversity of music of people who now live in Europe.
