The 150th anniversary of the death of Robert Schumann, in 1856 at an asylum in Endenich near Bonn, has seen – as a result of the dominating effect of the Mozart commemoration – few new CDs of his iridescent works. The Orpheus Vokalensemble, which consists of professional singers, makes a belated but essential contribution to this Schumann year with the present survey of his choral music.
