  • Stefan Klöckner was born in Duisburg in 1958 and studied music (Folkwang Hochschule Essen) as well as musicology and Catholic theology (Universities of Vienna, Münster and Tübingen). In 1984, he passed his state examination as a singing teacher with honours, followed by a master's degree in musicology (also with honours) in 1990 and a doctorate in Catholic theology (dogmatics) in 1991. From 1992 to 1999, he was Diocesan Music Director of the Office for Church Music of the Diocese of Rottenburg/Stuttgart. After teaching at the Karlsruhe University of Music and the Universities of Karlsruhe and Tübingen, he was appointed Professor of Gregorian Chant and Liturgy (now Musicology/Gregorian Chant and History of Church Music) at the Folkwang University of the Arts in 1999. Klöckner has also been director of the Münsterschwarzach choral courses since 1994. From 2009 to 2013, he taught as Professeur invité (visiting professor) at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Fribourg/CH (dogmatics, border issues of art and theology).
In 2009, Klöckner founded the ‘ensemble VOX WERDENSIS’, which under his direction has since developed into an interpreter of Gregorian chant and music of the Middle Ages known far beyond Germany.
