Johann Michael Bach The Complete Organ Chorales

Read and write feedback
The edition compiles all known chorale arrangements for organ by Johann Michael Bach, father of Johann Sebastian’s first wife Maria Barbara. Herein Johann Michael proves to be a thoroughly selfreliant composer, whose influence must have been felt by the young Johann Sebastian Bach. Especially part-time organists will find a very versatile and ready-to-use repertoire – and also interesting insights into the Middle German organ music during the 17th century. The appendix of the collection also contains works by Johann Christoph Bach and other composers.

  • The cantor of Gehren Johann Michael Bach the elder (1648–1694), the younger brother of Johann Christoph, is described in the family chronicle as a "skilful composer". According to a contemporary document he was quiet and reserved in character, with deep artistic understanding, and these qualities are reflected in his compositions. Those which survive consist of some dozen motets, solo strophic arias with instrumental accompaniment, and a few cantatas and organ chorales. Personal details

Jahrhundert.
